Most oral tablets are stable at room temperature, but heat and moisture quietly degrade active ingredients long before the printed expiry date.
Four rules that cover almost everything
- Keep tablets between 68F and 77F, away from radiators and sunny window sills.
- Skip the bathroom cabinet - shower steam is the single worst place in most American homes.
- Leave tablets in their original blister or bottle so the lot number and expiry stay attached.
- Store out of sight and reach of children and pets, ideally in a locked drawer.
Travelling with medication
Carry tablets in hand luggage rather than a checked bag, where cargo hold temperatures swing hard. Keep the original packaging for airport security.
Disposing of leftovers
Use a DEA-authorized take-back location or a pharmacy drop box rather than flushing tablets.
